Am 30. Januar 2015 hielt ich an der Nationalbibliothek Taiwan in Taipei einen Vortrag zum Thema “30 Jahre Anfasertechnik bei der Buchrestaurierung in Deutschland”.30 Jahre sind Zeit,die ich in Deutschland miterlebt habe.

Es waren mehr als 300 Zuhörer aus ganz Taiwan zugegen. Der Vortrag unter dem Vorsitz von Frau Direktor Zeng dauerte zwei Stunden zuzüglich der anschließenden Diskussion mit einem enthusiastischen Publikum. Außerdem hatte ich im Vorraum eine kleine Ausstellung mit den Werken europäische Kunstbuchbinder organisiert.

Diskutiert wurden die Vor-und Nachteile der beiden von mir vorgestellten Beispiele für Methoden der Anfasertechnik. Das erste war die Maschine von Herrn G. Bagenda, die dieser für das Institut für Bestandserhaltung und Restaurierung der Bayrischen Staatsbibliothek in München gebaut hatte. Diese Maschine funktionierte manuell.

Die zweite Generation der Bagenda-Maschine wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit der Maschinenbauschule Landshut entwickelt. Das Anfasergerät Typ Atlantis, das mein zweites Beispiel war, hat mehr Automatik und ist deshalb schneller und leistungsfähiger. Es findet vor allem Verwendung in der Zentralwerkstatt der Archive des Landes Baden-Württemberg.

30 years of leaf casting technique in book restortion in germany

On the 30th of january 2015 I lectured on the topic “30 years of leaf casting in book restoration in Germany” at the National Library Taiwan, Taipei.30 years are the time of my personal engagement in this fild.

There were more than 300 guests from all over Taiwan present. The talk, under presidency of directress Zeng, took two hours plus the ensuing discussion with an enthusiastic audience. In addition, there was a small exhibition with the works of german bookbindery artisans in the vestibule.

The advantages and disadvantages of two examples for methods of leaf custing, presented by me, were the object of discussion. The first was the machine of Mr. G. Bagenda, which he had developped for the Institute of Conservation and Restoration of the Bavarian State Library. This machine worked manually.

The second generation of the Bagenda machine had been developped in cooperation with the School of Mechanical Engineering in Landshut. This leaf custing device of the Atlantis type, my second example, has more automatic elements and therefore works faster and more efficiently. It is in use mostly in the central workshop for archives of Baden-Württemberg.
